2012/2013 

Applications

Applications are invited by 25th May 2012 from people in southern England who would like to receive a "John Edgar Award" to participate in this scheme. Applicants should be established in a career in or associated with agriculture or the land-based industries, and if not already in a management position should show the potential to achieve this in the near future. Most, but not all of the successful applicants in the past have been in the age range between their mid twenties to late thirties.

Interviews

Selection interviews will be held at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester on 20th June 2012. The selection panel aim to gather a balanced group of twelve people who can both contribute to and learn from each other and who show commitment to benefiting from the skills learnt. 

Candidates will be asked to confirm their ability to attend all the training.

The Course

The aim of the training course is to develop an individual's skills and abilities to enable him or her to become a more effective asset at work, and through that to the rural sector as a whole. 

The 2012/2013 training is residential and involves

  • a five-day tutored course at the RAC, Cirencester from 12th to 16th November 2012

  • a four-day project-based case study module based at the Grosvenor Hotel, Stockbridge from 14th to 17th January 2013

  • a second four-day project-based case study module based at the Grosvenor Hotel, Stockbridge from 5th to 8th March 2011

  • Business Practice, taxation and law

  • Media management

  • Leadership, personal and organisational

Prof. John Alliston, Lead Tutor

The lead tutor is Professor John Alliston, until recently Dean of the School of Agriculture at the Royal Agricultural College. He is assisted by Dr. James Jones who is the College's Principal lecturer and Head of Farm Management. Other academics, professionals and leaders from inside and outside the industry also provide training.

The training is by way of a full scholarship and no charge is made for the course itself or accommodation, but participants may be asked to contribute to expenses for some of the ancillary activities and are asked to support the aims and activities of the Trust in the future.
